Paul McKenna criticised by ASA

28 Sep 2007

Recent adverts for Paul McKenna's live roadhsows have received criticism from the Advertising Standards Authority.

His company, Paul McKenna Training, received a warning not to repeat claims that his "power of the mind diet" was "the most effective weight loss system available" and that it would enable people who attended to "lose weight and keep it off".

A spokesman for the ASA said: "We considered that most readers would understand the claim 'lose weight and keep it off' to mean that, by following the system, participants would lose weight and keep it off for the rest of their lives. We also considered that the ad implied weight loss and subsequent weight maintenance were guaranteed."

Paul McKenna Training did carry out two surveys following the roadshows showing that after 6 months 71% of attendees had lost weight.

The hypnotist has a range of books and CDs titled "I Can Make You Thin" along with other self help titles. His website claims that his seminars are "7x more effective than any diet".
