Salt & Malt Vinegar Kettle Crispy Bakes

Kettle Foods
20 Aug 2007

When I saw that Kettle had made a low fat crisp style snack I was quite excited (I don't get out much).

They are an oven baked snack, with a similar shape to penne pasta and are made from lentil flour and potato starch.

They come in a pack that has a simple but elegant looking design with an emphasis on the fact they use nothing that is artificial. There is also a gold logo announcing the low fat content, low calorie content and low salt content.

It is the low salt content which, for me, spoils the taste. They have used "Lo-Salt" to keep sodium levels down. My mother went through a phase of using "Lo-Salt" when I was a child (some time ago) and I recognise the bitter taste even now.

The texture is good with the short tubes giving a satisfying crunch but sadly I couldn't get past the bitterness in the taste.
